The end of 2010 is coming closer and the rest of December and early January 2011 will be linked to a lot of award ceremonies as people try to create hierarchies out of the titles launched in the last 12 months and Sony got a head start with its PlayStation Awards ceremony, which was held in Japan. It is designed to show off the best seller launched on the PlayStation 3 home console, the PlayStation Portable handheld and the PlayStation Network.

The period taken into account goes from November 1, 2009 to October 21, 2010 and only sales which have been made on the Japanese market are taken into account.

Just one game managed to take home a Platinum Award from Sony, the Japanese role playing game Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix, the latest entry in a long-running franchise that moved more than 1 million units on the strength of its complex world and beautiful graphics.

Eight titles managed to take a Gold Award, which is linked to sales of more than 500,000 units.

They are, in no particular order: Yakuza 4 - Sega, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – Konami, Fist of the North Star Warriors - Tecmo Koei, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP the Best – Capcom, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep – Square Enix, Phantasy Star Portable 2 - Sega, God Eater - Namco Bandai and Monster Hunter Diary - Capcom.

The top sellers on the PlayStation Network were: Wizardry, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Add-On Song Collection Deluxe Pack 1, After Burner Climax, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Dreamy Theater and Weekly Toro Station.

The PlayStation Awards also introduce a User Choice Category which includes:
