14 DAY TRIAL // Sony has confirmed that its recently announced PlayStation 4 won't require a constant internet connection, as users can keep it offline if they want.
The PlayStation 4 was revealed to the world yesterday and Sony emphasized the array of online services for its next-generation console, including the Gaikai-powered cloud gaming system.
Even so, Sony won't require a constant internet connection for the console, as it feels users should be free to do what they want with the device.
"You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected," Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.
"Yes you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that."
Even so, Yoshida highlights that there will be considerable benefits for those who keep their console connected to the internet.
Microsoft's Xbox 720, judging by recent rumors, might require a mandatory online connection, however, in order to activate games and prevent it from playing used titles.
