Sony leader Kaz Hirai suggests that the next PlayStation-branded home console will launch after Microsoft delivers the next device in the Xbox line, although the executive has not offered any clear schedule.

IGN quotes the Sony chief executive officer and president as saying that, “why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?”

Rumors suggest that both Sony and Microsoft have already finalized the core ideas for their next generation of home consoles and are ready to move to the manufacturing test phase.

The Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4 are expected to arrive later during 2013, but the companies that create them have so far stayed silent on specifications and launch windows.

The PlayStation 3 was launched after the Xbox 360 and has managed to become a success for Sony.
