DC Universe Online is one of the first MMOs to be launched on the PlayStation 4 next-gen console from Sony and the team working on the game believes that the new platform will allow it to include much more content in the title.

Larry Liberty, the executive producer at Sony Online Entertainment in charge of the project, tells ShackNews that, “There’s over 4000 NPCs, there’s an almost infinite amount of power combinations. I would certainly love to do more. We have to figure out continually how to fit in memory on effectively a 220MB system–that’s how much system RAM we have on PS3.”

The team will continue to support DC Universe Online on the PlayStation 3 and some of the changes for the next-gen console will also improve the experience of current players of the MMO.

Liberty adds, “I do expect that eventually, PS4 to come out, and probably be more successful than PS3 was as a platform. It wouldn’t surprise me if we do get a pretty quick migration, but we’ll keep servicing PS3 for a while. The good news for PS3 players is you can move to PS4, keep your friends, play together.”

DC Universe Online is a complex game that allows players to create their own superheroes, complete with extraordinary powers and suitable costumes.

They can then battle with villains from the comic books and get missions from some of the best-known heroes, including the likes of Superman and Batman.

The game is designed to get regular content updates that expand the story and introduce new power sets.

The PlayStation 4 will offer developers more hardware power to exploit and most of them say that they can deliver game experiences that are equivalent to those of a high-end PC.

The new Sony console is expected to be launched in November, when the Xbox One from Microsoft also arrives.
