The development team at Sony is ready to announce that it is working on a 2.0 version firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that will include a variety of new features, the most important of which is the new Share Play concept.

The official announcement from the company states that the core sharing options for the platform have already become very popular among the customer base, which puts a lot of time into services like: Live From PlayStation, interactive streaming, SHAREfactory, What’s New, and Photo Mode.

Sony says that Share Play basically creates a virtual space that can be shared by a PlayStation 4 user with any of his friends and means that the interactivity level will be significantly enhanced.

The company explains that "PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game- even when they don’t own a copy of it. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room. Let’s say that with games… you’ll be able to invite your friend online to play against the Miami Heat for the championship as the San Antonio Spurs in NBA2K, tackle the challenging Towerfall Ascension Quest Mode together, or aide, heal, and protect you as Igniculus in Child of Light’s local co-op mode."

Gamers can also offer control to another player using Share Play in order to get past a difficult section of a game.

The 2.0 firmware update for the PlayStation 4 will also include uploading for game video via a dedicated application on YouTube.

Sony adds, "Finally, What’s New will get enhanced real-time activity through friend-of-friend suggestions, allowing instant access to friends’ and recently played games’ broadcasts, and a real name search function will also be added. More features to come when v2.00 is made available this fall, and we will have more to announce in the coming months."

The company says that it wants all gamers to continue to deliver feedback on the feature set offered on the PlayStation 4 and that it will try to introduce as many of the suggestions in future version of the firmware.

Sony has recently announced that it has managed to sell more than 10 million PlayStation 4 devices all over the world and that players have also picked up more than 30 million titles for them.
