A lot of PS4 consoles were sold within the first 24 hours of availability

Sony has confirmed that its PlayStation 4 next-gen console has sold over 1 million units in its first 24 hours of availability in North America on November 15, setting a new record for the PlayStation brand.

The PS4 was eagerly awaited by many gamers from around the world, and the console finally made its debut first in North America earlier this week, on November 15.

Now, after crunching the numbers, Sony has confirmed that over 1 million PS4 units have been sold in the device's first 24 hours of availability.

According to Sony's Shuhei Yoshida, who revealed the impressive feat on Twitter, this is a new record for the PlayStation brand.

The sales figures will certainly grow on November 29, when the PS4 launches in certain European countries, and later in the year, when it makes its debut in Asian territories, and in February of 2014, when it's scheduled for release in Japan.
