Greg Street, the lead systems designer working on World of Warcraft, says that the next generation of gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft might be good platforms for MMO experiences, although Blizzard currently has no official plans for them.

The developer tells NowGamer that, “I would personally be very excited to see that, it would be a huge challenge to take something like World Of Warcraft with its massive hard drive footprint and its reliance on mouse and keyboard.”

He has also suggested that the company might use a different design philosophy for any future project that would arrive on the PlayStation 4 from Sony or the Xbox 720 from Microsoft.

He adds, “I think if we were going to make a MMO for consoles then we might take it in a different direction.”

Street would not speculate on how the nature of the genre would change.

Blizzard has been working on a new MMO, which uses the codename Titan, for at least the last four years and speculation suggests that the title is designed to use the mechanics of next-generation home consoles.

Limited details have been offered about the game, but sources have insisted that it will continue to use a subscription business model and that it will not have a fantasy setting.

Blizzard has recently announced that it has a big reveal planned for PAX East, which might be either Titan or the much talked about MOBA All-Stars.

World of Warcraft is still performing well, despite its age, and has more than 10 million subscribers at the moment, despite a recent drop before the launch of Mists of Pandaria.

The company is getting ready to launch Patch 5.2, labeled The Thunder King, which is designed to appeal to veterans of the MMO by eliminating flight mechanics and by introducing a number of difficult raids.
