The two new platforms might be introduced at E3 2015

It seems that the team at Sony working on the PlayStation 4 is getting ready to reveal two new models for the home console, which are designed to update the hardware of the platforms and to include a 1 TB hard drive for the first time.

The Federal Communication Commission in the United States has delivered certifications for both of them, which DualShockers has managed to take a look at, revealing that the company is working on CUH-1215A and CUH-1215B.

Sony has not made any sort of official announcement about new PlayStation 4 versions, and the company will probably wait to deliver more details until E3 2015.

The new PS4 versions seem to tweak the power supply, moving the specifications to 230 W and 2.3-0.95 A, which is lower than for the currently available devices.

CUH-1215A will have a 500 GB hard drive, which is a solid option for modern gamers, but the real star of the show will be CUH-1215B, which increases the capacity to 1 TB.

The weight of the PlayStation 4 has also been reduced to about 2.5 kilograms coming from 2.8 at the present, and Sony has probably made tweaks to the internal systems of the home console as well, but no information about this has been offered by the FCC.

The PlayStation 4 might get a boost from a re-designed device

If an official announcement about the new consoles is made during the E3 2015 trade show, the actual launch might take place as soon as the fall of this year, in time for the important Christmas shopping season.

Sony does not have too many exclusives launching this fall, and the delivery of a new console would give the company momentum when it needs it the most and would allow it to create some interesting bundles.

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 continues to lead the Xbox One when it comes to overall sales on a worldwide level, although it lost its first place in the NPD Group hardware chart for the month of April in the United States.

The company has said that it does not have a plan to cut the price of the device in the coming months, something that Microsoft has done at the beginning of the year.
