Sony wants teams to revive prospects for the handheld

The team at Sony handling the development of the new PlayStation 4 home console is asking all third-party studios to include Remote Vita play in their upcoming projects, unless they have already signed up to use the Eye camera features.

A source tells Eurogamer that the policy is an attempt to make the Vita, which has been a commercial disappointment, a more attractive device to customers.

Remote Play as it is implemented on the PlayStation 4 is handled by the operating systems of the home console, which means that it’s easier for developers to implement the feature.

Sony has been hinting in the last few months that it has a long-term plan for the PlayStation Vita, but most gamers were expecting new high-profile games rather than a closer connection with the PS4.

The new Sony home console is expected to launch before the end of 2013.
