The development team in charge of working on the PlayStation 4 at Sony is now ready to officially reveal the long awaited and much talked about firmware update 2.50 for the device, which is codenamed Yukimura, designed to significantly improve functionality for the home console.

The company is confirming that the main new feature which is being introduced is Suspend/Resume, a concept that was repeatedly asked for by the user community.

On the official PS Blog, Scott McCarthy, the director of product planning and software innovation at SCEA, states that the new function will be easy to use for all gamers, as they just have to "pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off."

The introduction of Suspend/Resume through firmware update 2.50 was revealed via a leak about one week ago.

Sony is also saying that it will introduce a number of other features to the home console.

Gamers will be able to execute a Facebook friends search in order to connect with more acquaintances and then play with them.

A new procedure is being introduced to allow gamers who turn 10 to upgrade their accounts directly from the PlayStation 4, getting access to a new set of rights.

The Remote Play and Share Play features are also updated to run at 60 FPS for those titles which support it, as long as players choose that option.

The PlayStation 4 is also getting improvements to the Trophy system, including an automated screenshot when one is acquired, and the range of accessibility options the platform supports is getting a solid upgrade.

PlayStation 4 firmware update 2.50 does not yet have a launch window

Sony is saying that more details will be offered soon, but with many details already unveiled via leaks, most users of the home console will only be interested to know exactly when the new features will be added.

Testing is needed to make sure that everything runs well, but the team might be ready to deliver firmware update 2.50 for the PlayStation 4 before the end of the month.

Constant updates are important for both the Sony device and the rival Xbox One from Microsoft as they continue to compete for the money and the time of gamers.
