A brand new study has appeared, showing the stance of social media services like Twitter, Facebook, and more in concern to the next-generation consoles, the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4.

The study shows that Sony's PS4 has more than double the amount of chatter than Microsoft's next Xbox.

Next-generation consoles will be launched this year, and Sony revealed its own PS4 back in February, while Microsoft's next Xbox (aka Xbox Now!) is going to be showcased tomorrow, May 21, at a special event.

Ahead of this presentation, it seems that Sony's PlayStation 4 is dominating social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and many other services, at least according to a study made by Fizziology, posted by Forbes.

The company has surveyed social media chatter from the last few months and Sony's PS4 is the winner, with more than double the amount of conversations than the Xbox 720.

"If Microsoft shows the console next week, excitement and a natural bias would have two weeks to increase and then the PS4 would be forced into comparisons with this next gen Xbox," Fizziology co-creator Jen Handley said.

"It will be interesting to see which console receives more social buzz and higher positive sentiment that day and then what the layman gamers have to say a few weeks after E3 when they become aware of the new consoles."

Even so, gamers are pretty positive about both consoles, even if most of them are neutral, as they await more actual details including names, price, games, or capabilities.

"While name discussion was the most popular topic in the next gen Xbox’s social conversation (43%), it’s unlikely that consumers will not purchase the console if they dislike the name," Handley added. "They might still make fun of it — hardcore gamers in particular dislike the Xbox 720 moniker — but it seems that very few people will dislike the name enough to not make a purchase. Gamers really care about whether the console will require them to always be online and/or its backwards compatibility."

The most important issue according to the survey is the always-on Internet connection requirement, as lots of negative conversations took place on this subject.
