As opposed to the Xbox One, Sony doesn't even need the console to check online every day

Sony has once again confirmed that the PlayStation 4 next generation console won't require a constant internet connection, even if being connected will allow it to perform more functions and deliver more services.

Among the biggest controversies surrounding next gen consoles and the Xbox One in particular was the need for a constant online connection.

While Microsoft confirmed that its console doesn't require to be permanently online, it followed up by saying that it needs to go online every 24 hours to work.

That won't happen with the PlayStation 4, as Sony's Mark Cerny has once again confirmed to El Mundo, via NeoGAF, that the PlayStation 4 is not a "permanent connection system," although the experience is "richer" if people are connected.

Lots of functions depend on the online connection but Cerny highlighted that single-player gaming can still be enjoyed offline without any necessity for connections at certain times.
