Sony has reportedly solved the “CE-33945-4” issue that some owners of its PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system were experiencing yesterday.

Yesterday, a small number of users reported problems with their PlayStation 4 units, stating that they were facing an issue which prevented them from buying or playing games.

Sony said earlier that it had made progress on fixing the issue, and it seems to have been solved. A Sony spokesperson speaking with Kotaku revealed that the platform owner was hard at work on solving the bug.

“We are aware of this account issue that has affected a very small number of users. We are currently investigating the cause of the issue and have made progress toward a possible solution,” the company representative said.

Sony did not reveal exactly what had sparked the issue, but some users speculated that it might have been tied to pre-ordering a game on the PlayStation Network and then cancelling the purchase through customer support.

This could have led to an error entering the database and then causing the glitch, and many users suggested rebuilding the database on affected PlayStation 4 consoles as a solution to the problem.

A number of PlayStation 4 users reported the issue both on the PlayStation forums as well as on NeoGAF, revealing their inability to access various PlayStation Network services, and to buy and play games.

Although the issue seemed to be affecting a small number of people, its effects were crippling, as due to the CE-33945-4 error, no games at all could be played on the PS4, and access to various PSN services such as Netflix was restricted, basically rendering the console useless.

This isn’t the first time that the PlayStation 4 has faced such errors, and it’s likely not going to be the last time, either. Some users are reporting still being affected by various error codes at times, in spite of Sony’s patches since the console was released.

Although the reports seem to be more isolated, other users are mentioning being occasionally locked out of their digital downloads, or being unable to play their games offline due to license synchronizing issues.

Other users are reporting more severe issues, with apps and games crashing out of nowhere on occasion, similar to the ones that PS4 owners faced with the CE-34878-0 error a while back, that affected the console around its launch in November last year.

The related post on the PlayStation forums notes that the error is now gone, so digital content should be accessible once again for those previously afflicted.
