Not in the world, not in the US or Europe... in Singapore

This statement will have two results: the Xbox 360 fanboys will be outraged and they'll start sending me e-mails full of hatred, while the PS3 fanboys will say "Yeah, we already knew that. Something new?". The truth is, though, that none of the two factions would be right in such a situation. Because, as good as it sounds, this title is not a real reason for joy for Sony, or the PlayStation 3 fans. Indeed, the consoles have been pronounced as the number 1 system... but in Singapore.

It might just as well be the beginning of greater things, of course, but it is definitely not a reason for an all-night party. North America, Europe and Japan would probably be the main regions any console would like to be considered number one and that is far from a reality when it comes to Sony's entertainment system, even though sales have started to go up lately. Still, as I've said, it is a good thing to be number one somewhere than the loser everywhere.

PlayStation 3 has been crowned as the #1 console during the GfK Singapore No. 1 Awards held earlier this month. It seems that the entire country is a huge Sony fan, since the handheld PSP have also won the award for the top selling title. It would be nice to know some numbers, though - we'll start digging.

"Now more than ever, consumers are very discerning when it comes to technology. The GfK awards highlight how Singapore consumers choose technology that offers the widest range of entertainment options possible, in an integrated platform," James Hong, deputy general manager of the marketing division at Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong, said. "The power of PS3, the portability of PSP and connectivity of the PlayStation Network will ensure that PlayStation is well positioned to take an even larger slice of the global gaming pie."

As I was saying in the beginning - "global" is the key word here and PS3 is a bit far from that. Things can change, though. PlayStation 2 is still the best selling console in history and it was Sony's work of art.
