The current-gen console won't see its price lowered anytime soon

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 current-generation console won't get a price cut to complement the upcoming PlayStation 4 next-gen device, as the company can't find areas where it can drive down costs.

The PS3 has been around for many years and has kept a pretty consistent price in the last few years, even if a redesigned version was rolled out last year.

Ahead of the release of the PlayStation 4 next-gen console, Sony's UK Managing Director, Fergal Gara, talked with GI and revealed that there won't be a PS3 price cut to accompany its successor.

"The PlayStation 3 is a system where it hasn't been particularly easy to get the costs down," he admitted.

Sony will continue to aim for a lower PS3 price but, as of yet, the current 250 USD/EUR tag remains.
