It's a bit hard to imagine but Sony's PlayStation 3 celebrates its fifth anniversary today, November 17, after being released five years ago in North America.

Microsoft just celebrated the 10th anniversary of its original Xbox console, which was released back in November 15, 2001, and Sony is now taking over the spotlight with its PlayStation 3, which just turned 5 today.

The PlayStation blog started celebrating yesterday and got a huge amount of game developers and PS3 owners to share the best games they've experienced on the platform.

"November 17 marks the five-year anniversary of PlayStation 3’s launch in the United States of America. Just think — our beloved black box was born into a primordial world where online multiplayer modes were the exception, not the rule; HDDs were a side option for game consoles, not a standard feature; standard-def DVDs were the only choice for home video; and Nathan Drake wasn’t a household name. It’s unthinkable," the PS blog article reads.

Check it out at this link and share with us some of your favorite games that appeared on the PlayStation 3.

And how many of those 5 year old boxes are still around, not yet a victim of the dreaded "yellow light of death"? Such an advanced system, built with sub-par materials with a process that won't allow the system to see it's 6th birthday. No wonder the Korean electronic companies are topping * companies.
