Gran Turismo 5 lead designer Kazunori Yamauchi has just revealed that even if the upcoming game is exclusive to the powerful PlayStation 3 console, the game was still hampered by the limits of the Sony console.

The PlayStation 3 is currently the most powerful next generation console on the market, even if this power can sometimes be difficult to harness by developers used to simpler hardware like the Xbox 360 or PC.

Still, the PS3 is the exclusive home to impressive games like God of War III or Uncharted 2, which have been praised as some of the best looking titles of all time.

Yamauchi begs to differ, saying that with every PlayStation console he worked on, technical limitations stopped him from creating the games he would've wished.

"Software has to be created under the restriction of the hardware," he revealed. "With each new PlayStation, the vessel has become bigger, but it's still not enough.

"With Gran Turismo 5 we've made it as clean and beautiful as possible within the confines of the space we're given - but of course there's a lot more that we want to put in."

While this attitude is worthy of praise, this constant desire on behalf of Yamauchi and his team at Polyphony Digital to deliver the most polished game ever is what made GT5 be delayed a couple of times.

The game was set to appear in Japan this spring, but was later pushed back to a release date at the beginning of November.

At the end of October, Sony came forward and said that GT5 is going to be delayed once more, in order to give Polyphony extra time to make sure that the title will deliver the best experience possible.

Now, Gran Turismo 5 is set to appear before the holiday season, although no concrete release date was given.

According to Yamauchi's previous statements, the game is now gold, so discs are being manufactured as we speak.
