Some are already playing on the PS3

As the PlayStation 3 launch is just around the corner, Sony Computer Entertainment decided to "donate" some consoles to a few lucky gamers.

The guys over at IGN received a PS3 (Softpedia on hold-Sony can you hear us?) and decided to rip out the box and to take some pictures of it. The PlayStation 3 box received by lucky IGN contained - besides the console itself and what seems to be a wireless controller - a USB cord, a LAN cable, an AV Cable and a complementary HDMI cable by the looks of it.

The PS3 is the third console in the PlayStation series, meant to compete with Micorsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. The first unveiling of the PS3 took place on May 16, 2006 at the E3 gaming conference. In the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, Sony demonstrated 27 playable titles, games that were run on final hardware.

Many upcoming titles will have PS3 support including: Grand Turismo HD, Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, Strangehold, Unreal Tournament 2007, Armored Core 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Carbon, Madden NFL 07, Ridge Racer 7, Call of Duty 3, Devil May Cry 4, Lair, MotorStorm and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Sounds impressive?
