The developers at Platinum Games have confirmed that the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony is the leading platform for the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Atsuhi Inaba, who is one of the producers working on the game, replied to a Tweet asking about the base platform for the game by saying PlayStation 3.

The answer is surprising because for their latest release, Bayonetta, the leading development platform at Platinum Games was the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, with the PlayStation 3 port created by another company.

There are significant differences between the two platforms and this might affect the development process and the final quality of the game.

The new Metal Gear title will focus on Raiden and, with Platinum Games in charge, the story will take place after the events of MGS4 and will focus more on straight up action than on stealth.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in 2012.
