Video game hardware maker and publisher Sony has announced the launch of the 4.10 firmware version for the PlayStation 3 home gaming console and has offered some information on the content of the new update.

The official announcement from Sony states that the main change introduced is the renaming of the classic PlayStation Network Account to the Sony Entertainment Network Account, in order to create a better integration between the PSN and other entertainment services that the company is offering.

The company states, “Please note that this change is one in name only and will not change the PSN that you know and love. You’ll still play games online, still have access to the latest downloadable games and add-ons, and still experience a wide variety of movies, sports and music across PSN.”

The 4.10 firmware update is also making changes to the Internet Browser for the PlayStation 3, which should result in an improved display speed for the application.

As usual Sony is rather tight lipped when it comes to the actual content of its firmware updates and a lot of users will ask the company to offer more information on the exact changes made to the network infrastructure.

Last week Sony introduced a worldwide maintenance period for the PlayStation Network, probably in preparation for the current firmware update launch.

The new President and Chief Executive Officer of Sony, Kaz Hirai, who is set to take over his new positions starting on April 1, has stated that the PlayStation brand should focus more on delivering a solid user experience to customers and less on just selling them hardware.

The company has already announced that the infrastructure currently supporting the PlayStation Network will be used for the Sony Entertainment Network, which will also include content and video games for handhelds, smartphones, tablets and intelligent television sets.
