The update is optional for those fearful of its effects

The PlayStation 3 home gaming console has received another firmware update from Sony, labeled 4.11, which, according to Sony, “improves certain aspects of system software.”

The hardware maker has not offered any more information on what updates the new firmware introduces, which is becoming some sort of a habit for the company.

The 4.11 firmware update is not needed for gamers to access the PlayStation Network, meaning that it is optional and players need to go to the System Update option of the Settings menu on the XMB in order to download it.

Just one week ago Sony released the 4.10 firmware update for the home console, which prepared the device for the launch of the PlayStation Vita handheld and the way the two devices could interact.

All the changes made in the 4.11 optional update will probably also be included in the next major firmware update, needed to access the PSN.
