Sony has confirmed that it’s going to release the next big firmware update for the PlayStation 3 home console tomorrow, October 23, taking its software to version 4.30 and adding a much anticipated feature to the Trophies section, which will now reveal the trophies for PS Vita titles.

Sony became rather infamous after releasing lots of software updated for its PS3 console in the last couple of years, specifically after it was uncovered that users could play pirated games on it.

In the last few months, however, the Japanese company has toned down the release of new firmware and only launched it when major new features were coming to the console.

Now, a brand new software update has been confirmed by Sony, in the form of firmware 4.30, which makes a long-awaited change to the Trophies section on the PS3, as it will now display the trophies users have also earned in games for the PS Vita.

“With this update we have made several changes to how Trophies are displayed on your PlayStation 3. The Trophy Collection will now reside under PlayStation Network on the XMB. Trophies that you have earned playing PlayStation Vita games are now displayed on your PlayStation 3. You will also be able to see your Trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing your trophy collection,” Sony said on the PS blog.

What’s more, the new update will also set the stage for the retirement of the Life with PlayStation application, which included the Folding@home program that donated processing power to Stanford University’s disease research.

“By the beginning of November 2012, we will retire the services available through the Life with PlayStation application. In conjunction with its retirement, we will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update,” Sony added.

“This includes the conclusion of our participation with Stanford University’s Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s as well as various cancers.”

According to Sony, since the program was launched back in 2007, more than 15 million PS3 users have donated over 100 million computation hours.

Expect firmware update 4.30 for the PS3 to appear sometime tomorrow, October 23, all over the world.
