The development team at Blizzard is ready to offer more information on how it has tweaked the Diablo III experience in order to make it playable on the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, focusing on the new evade move and the modifications made to boss fights.

Matthew Burger, who is the leading designer working on the new version of the game, tells The Official PlayStation Magazine that, “on the console version if use your right stick you can evade left, right, back and forward. In this type of game having a dodge roll is fairly traditional on the console so we wanted to make sure we had that.”

The new move is designed to increase the survival odds for players and eliminate potential frustration.

The PlayStation 3 version of Diablo III will also have a modified inventory, which allows players to sort equipment based on body parts and make a quick comparison in order to determine what’s best suited for their character.

Players will also have to manually guide their character around the world, which might make it more difficult to get away from large enemy groups.

Burger adds, “Something we’ve done a little bit of work on is our boss fights – the presentation, some of the mechanics to bring them more in line with console boss fights which have a lot of tradition. So we’ve obviously kept an eye on how console games are and we mirrored that.”

It’s not clear which classic console experiences Blizzard used as inspiration for the adapted mechanics of Diablo 3.

The game is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 in the fall, with all the patches and added content that the PC version will get until then.

A version of the game is also planned for the PlayStation 4, presumably available on launch.
