Video games are one step closer to reality. Technology has already evolved enough to provide us with powerful gameplay experiences through high-quality graphics and even virtual reality sets, such as the Oculus Rift.

These require extremely buffed-up computers for flawless gameplay and such a capable machine can take a lot of bills out of your pocket. What’s more, compatibility issues prevent you from enjoying games from the last decade, but there are ways around.

If gamer blood runs through your veins, nostalgia strikes sooner or later. Modern video games come out looking stunning, but most of the times at the cost of gameplay and story. Luckily, a Windows computer can be equipped with the right means to play NES console games, as well as solving issues with old titles.

Run a game with DOSBox

Step 1: Copy the game directory to an easy location, preferably a drive root.

Step 2: Run the application and write the following. Note that you need to write the exact path and this is a mere example: Mount C C:\games

Step 3: Switch to the specific drive simply by writing C: (where C is the target drive letter).

Step 4: Use cd mario (where mario is the target folder name).

Step 5: Write down the name of the executable along with the extension, and enjoy.

Play vintage NES games with My Nes

Step 1: Download and install My Nes.

Step 2: Run the application and choose to Open ROM under the File menu.

Step 3: Navigate to the game location and simply run it.

Nowadays, developers are working on ways to revive classic titles, with a fair example being the guys over at GOG.com. Their effort saves you the time and effort of using DOSBox for titles they have in store. NES games, on the other hand, are free, and you can find them all over the web. Head over to romhustler.net and see for yourself.
