With companies like Tesco, Argos and Carphone Warehouse pulling out tablets that seem to challenge more and more the budget price tag, competitors were forced to do something about it.

Now the new Nexus 7 is getting a discount from one of UK’s major retailer, Tomshardware says. Play.com decided to slash £20 / $32 / €23 off the initial price tag set for the country, landing the slate to £179 / $288 / €209.

Those interested in getting a more serious tablet should know that the new Nexus 7 features a 7.02-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. Google has coated the display with Corning glass as to protect it from scratches.

Performance comes from a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Adreno 320 400 MHz graphics and 2GB of RAM. There are two cameras onboard, a 5-megapixel rear one and a 1.2 megapixel frontal one. There’s 16GB of internal storage to take advantage from, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.

And with the added discount, it all makes for a pretty sweet deal.
