It seems that Sony has been working on a lot of things besides its new OLED monitors, one of which being a certain device capable of playing media on TVs off various memory cards.

While Sony was mostly quiet during the Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona, Spain, it was revealed to be planning on making S1 tablets.

The company will also supposedly customize the Honeycomb (Android 3.0) operating system, for better or worse.

Of course, the outfit was not all talk, as it also had something solid to show, though not in terms of tablets, but the area of displays.

To be more specific, Sony put together two professional monitors based on the OLED (organic light emitting diodes) technology.

Now, Sony has again issued a press release in which it details something quite different.

Basically, the new product is a memory card reader which, besides acting as a means to transfer photos and videos from a digital camera or whatnot to a PC, can also do something else that is also particularly intriguing.

That something is the capability to playback photos and video directly on a TV through the USB port.

“It’s never been easier to transfer photos and videos from your digital camera, camcorder or smartphone to your PC,” says the press release.

“What’s more, you can now play back videos and photos taken with Cyber-shot or Handycam directly on your USB-equipped BRAVIA TV, with no connecting cables needed.”

The newcomer goes by the name of MRW-F3 and supports a wide variety of SD card formats and Memory Stick devices.

No drivers are needed for its full use but, by means of Drive Letter Recognition Software, each slot of the card reader is recognized by name when it shows up on the PC desktop.
