Codeweavers has just rolled out the Mac gamer's dream emulator, CrossOver Games, specifically crafted for use with video games, instead of office productivity applications, which is what the software was originally created for. According to Codeweavers, you won't have any trouble running popular titles such as World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Guild Wars, Half Life 2 and dozens more. Both Mac OS X and Linux users can download this free trial right here and give it a go, while the paid version goes for $39.95.

"Now gamers can play the games they want, on whatever platform they want! With CrossOver Games, you can run many popular Windows games on your Intel OS X Mac or Linux PC. Whatever your tastes - first-person shooters, fantasy, strategy, MMORPGs - CrossOver Games provides the capability to run many popular games titles. CrossOver comes with an easy to use, single click interface, which makes installing your games simple and fast," says codeweavers.com.

Once installed, the developers say, games integrate seamlessly into your desktop, as CrossOver Games is built on the latest versions of Wine, based on contributions from both CodeWeavers and the open-source Wine community.

As mentioned above, CodeWeavers-supported games include World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Guild Wars, Prey and Steam Games such as Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike, Counterstrike: Source, Civilization IV, Peggle Extreme, Call of Duty 2, Max Payne 2 and Grand Theft Auto 2.

Codeweavers also notes that "the newest games run faster and better under CrossOver [Games] than under other versions of CrossOver, or other version of free Wine, for that matter."

CrossOver Games is, of course, capable of running a bigger array of Windows games. As such, interested Mac/Linux users should check out the entire list of supported games over at the CrossOver Compatibility Center.
