The high-end Android 2.1-based HTC Desire is already available for purchase in the UK via wireless carriers, yet it seems that users might soon benefit from new offerings for the device. While T-Mobile UK has the Desire out of stock, with a possible shipment of new units to arrive this week, online retailer Play lists the device as available for pre-order for only £399.99, SIM-free, with an expected release date set for April 16.

One thing that is certain is that the Desire seems even more appealing now that its price tag went under £400. However, those willing to pay this amount for it will still have to wait until Friday to get the phone in their hands. What they will get includes a handset running under Google's Android 2.1 operating system, with the HTC Sense solution thrown over it, both being delivered on a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800 pixel resolution.

In case the £399.99 price of a SIM-free HTC Desire seems too much, one can always look for other deals on the handset, such as the one available from T-Mobile UK, which has it for free on a £35 per month plan for 24 months. The Desire is out of stock at the carrier for the moment, it seems, though a new shipment of units is expected to arrive this week, a recent post on the company's forums states. There are a lot of users expecting for the device to become available again at the carrier, and it seems that they won't have to wait too much for that to happen.

“I have just been informed by a T-Mo store manager (chippenham) that they're expecting to get stock in store on Wednesday. 10,000 handsets are on their way from HTC as we speak and should get to the T-Mo central distribution/warehouse a few days before Wednesday, fulfilling phone and online orders before the remainder gets filtered down to the high street stores,” is what a T-Mobile customer notes in the aforementioned forum post.
