No word on when exactly the product will finally launch

Plastic Logic is one of the IT players that was drawn by the hype surrounding the e-reader market and became determined to unleash its own e-reader, dubbed QUE ProReader. Unfortunately, the company has, so far, been unable to actually finish it and has even had to delay it in order to put some finishing touches on it. Now, it appears that the same product has once again been delayed, though the situation sounds slightly more serious than it did back in April.

Apparently, Plastic Logic is no longer sure when exactly it will finally reap the benefits of its research and development efforts. This was revealed by means of an e-mail sent to those who had pre-ordered the device. In it, the outfit apologizes for the difficulties and assures that it will, eventually, deliver on its promises. The other half of the message, however, is what truly draws attention since it reveals a move not normally taken by any vendor.

All pre-orders have been canceled. Since the shipments will no longer start on June 24, as was previously planned, the ordering system supposedly canceled them automatically.

“We've been working hard to bring the world's first product based on plastic electronics technology to market -- and have decided that delaying the device a bit longer will result in a better product for you. With that in mind, we need to let you know that since your unit will not ship on June 24 as planned, our automated ordering system has automatically canceled your order,” the e-mail writes, according to Engadget.

The QUE ProReader already has the disadvantage of a $800 price in a world where both the Nook and the Kindle sell for under $200. It remains to be seen whether its maker manages to finally bring it out and if its feature set can outweigh this seemingly major drawback.
