A brand new and quite major update is coming to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare later today, September 30, across all of its platforms, delivering new modes, one impressive map, eight fresh characters, and much more.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was one of the most intriguing title published by Electronic Arts this year, delivering a third-person shooter take on the original Plants vs. Zombies tower defense experience made by PopCap Games many years ago.

Offering both cooperative and competitive experiences as well as plenty of free updates to keep the community from becoming splintered and scattered, Garden Warfare is now quite popular across all of its platforms, starting first on Xbox One and Xbox 360 and then reaching PC, PS4, and the PS3.

A fresh patch is coming soon with lots of content

Now, PopCap has confirmed that another major free update is set to debut later today, September 30, all around the world and across all the platforms, in the form of Legends of the Lawn.

As standard, the Legends of the Lawn update features quite a lot of brand new things for Garden Warfare, including a fresh gameplay mode, eight character variants, two imposing Garden Ops bosses, as well as many other things.

"This massive update includes another brand new mode, new character variants, customizations, and more. Specifically, you’re looking at 2 new modes, 1 new map, 8 new character variants, 2 new Garden Ops bosses, new spawnable Plants and Zombies, and hundreds of new customization items," PopCap's Lead Gameplay Designer, Chris Fox, says on the PS blog.

The main star of the DLC is the new game mode called Taco Bandits. The experience sees the zombies try to break through plant defenses in order to steal a taco and take it back to their leader, Dr. Zomboss. If the zombies do this three times in a round, they win.

PS4 and PS3 users get an extra DLC alongside the update

PS3 and PS4 owners will also see included in the update the Suburbination DLC, which was released for the game on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One before the title actually launched on the PlayStation platforms.

This add-on has a fresh gameplay mode called Suburbination, which adds a twist to the classic Domination-style multiplayer modes, in which players fight over three zones on the map. It also has the Crash Course map, which takes and idyllic golf course and turns it into a fierce battlefield between the plants and the zombies.
