Casual games developer PopCap has announced the arrival of Dark Ages Part 1, the debut of a new world in the popular puzzler where players use plants with unique abilities to fend off hoards of brain-eating zombies.

Arguably one of the best-known games in the iOS App Store, Plants vs. Zombies has been a runaway hit with millions of downloads worldwide. The game is promoted as free and, for the most part, it is. Players who can’t be bothered to rack up coins the old-fashioned way (by playing well) can opt to buy them with in-game purchases.

Version 2.4.1 is now available, with PopCap stating, “Part 1 of the new Dark Ages world arriveth. It's time to get medieval on some zombies!”

A new world means a bunch of fresh levels with new plants. These new kids on the block thrive in the dark of night, according to PopCap. They’ll come in handy for fighting off new types of zombies and a Gargantuar from the days of yore. Gravestones now provide actual sun and even plant food.

“Thank you for your continued support. As always, let us know what you think of the game and rate us after each update,” PopCap concludes. Download Plants vs Zombies 2 from the supplied link and enjoy!
