After a setback earlier this month, new Google headquarters move location to Charleston East from North Bayshore

Google isn't giving up on its futuristic campus just yet. After losing its original location of North Bayshore to LinkedIn when the Mountain View city council rejected plans of four interconnected building structures, the company is now moving to Charleston East.

The difference this time is that Google owns the land on which it wants to build its campus and only needs the city's environmental approval.

Since the planned headquarters seem to be built around the idea of mixing nature with glass-based, transparent buildings, there is a very small chance Google will be rejected this time as well.

The upcoming headquarters are based on a joint design between Heatherwick Studio and Bjarke Ingels Group, and have a special design that allows management to move parts of the building around, changing and adapting the office space to accommodate new projects.

Their iconic feature is a glass dome design that allows you to see what's going on inside, letting natural sunlight in, and also visually dissolving the building into the nature-rich background the architects plan to have around it.

Google will always have a backup plan

The new Charleston East location covers 18.6 acres and Google plans to build 595,000 square-feet of floor space.

Google has been leasing this site for years, but hasn't built anything over it, primarily because it preferred the larger Bayshore site which was 50 acres spread across four locations. The Mountain View city council gave 32 of these acres in three locations to LinkedIn at the start of May 2015, and only one to Google of only 11.8 acres.

The original architectural plans intended for North Bayshore will remain unchanged, and you can take a look at the original presentation video from February 2015 embedded below.
