More Kratos

God of War III is set to be released on March 16 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 gaming system for Sony, marking the end of the Kratos saga, which has spanned three main games, spinoffs and hardware platforms. But already the people behind the title are talking about offering more content for those fans of the series who cannot get enough of the Spartan warrior.

Talking to GameTrailer, Steve Caterson, who is the senior producer at the Santa Monica studios, which worked on God of War III, said that “Probably the hardest cut was we had a whole kind of epilogue at the end planned that we just never got... just didn't get... maybe later!” It's not clear from the comments whether the content was actually created by the development team and only dropped from the retail disk or whether there was an idea related to an epilogue that never got past the project stage.

Judging by the downloadable content craze that is sweeping the videogames industry, Caterson is probably signaling that Sony will be offering DLC for God of War III, at least part of it being story based. With the game arriving in less than two weeks, Sony will probably announce more detailed plans for further releases in the coming months or so.

The 2008 Prince of Persia release tried something similar, with a DLC only ending to the story told by Ubisoft coming after the game was launched. Some players liked how it complemented the initial release while others claimed that it should have been included in the original launch package.

Sony has already stated that it plans to do more with the God of War franchise in the future, even if Kratos as the main protagonist will be retired after this year’s launch. Maybe the epilogue will be the one to introduce the new main character for the series.
