Apparently eager to reel in some more customers that have a taste for fast data transfers, Planex revealed its newest USB 3.0-enabled hard disk drive that, alas, are only available in Japan.

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface has, understandably, gathered a following very quickly, what with its performance being ten times higher than that of USB 2.0.

The two newcomers that this outfit has put together are called PL-35STU3-25RZ and PL-35STU3-2VZ.

The PL-35STU3-2VZ has a capacity of 2 TB and is of the external variety, with a size of 114.3 x 35.8 x 174.4 mm and a weight of about 173 grams.

It is, naturally, backwards compatible with the USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 specifications, as well as equipped with support for not just Windows, but also Mac OS.

In fact, more than just Apple's operating system, the product has compatibility with the Time Machine backup utility.

Meanwhile, the PL-35STU3-25RZ, also an external unit, has a storage space of 2.5 TB and a LED array on the front, which will hint at how much space is occupied.

It can work with not just PCs, but also Sony PlayStation 3 (and other) gaming consoles. It can even be employed as a program recorder instead of just as a regular storage solution.

It measures 240 x 41 x 153 mm and weighs 1,494 grams, all the while featuring a platter rotary speed of 5,400 RPM (rotations per minute).

It has the same operating system support range as its sibling and, all in all, can be viewed as a somewhat more versatile model when compared to it.

Shipments should already be underway, for the prices of 10,000 yen (PL-35STU3-2VZ) and 15,000 yen (PL-35STU3-25RZ). Those sums correspond to roughly US$130 and US$195, respectively.

Consumers whose interest has been piqued need only drop by this particular website if they wish to find their way directly to the product pages.
