Sony Online Entertainment revealed that a massive update is on its way today, bringing a lot of bug fixes, tweaks, and a neat Halloween event to fans of Planetside 2.

Planetside 2 is a massively multiplayer online first-person shooter that's currently available on PC and will also come to the PlayStation 4 sometime in the future, enabling gamers to engage in large-scale open-world combat.

The highlight of the update is no doubt the special Halloween event that SOE is planning to host, titled Nanite of the Living Dead.

Space pumpkins are way more awesome than regular ones

The post on the official forums informs that someone genetically modified some "space pumpkins" for testing purposes, and then accidentally had them sent down to Auraxis, where they were quick to take root and grow.

Now, it's up to you and you mates to destroy the pumpkins, harvest their seeds and then drop them off at the many space pumpkin seed drop-off zones that will pop up in-game, in exchange for a wide variety of themed rewards.

The pumpkin event lasts for the duration of the entire month, and pumpkin hunt alerts can pop up at any moment. Players will be able to earn seasonal masks to wear during the event, as well as an assortment of other such doodads, and there will also be many thematic changes, such as new properties for mines and grenades, as well as a lot of outpost spooky name changes.

The update also introduces some base game changes

The update will also deliver a ton of changes to the standard game, including a redesign in weapons optics for all sight reticles, at 1x, 2x, 3x and 4x. The optics will be drawn dynamically, offering a more accurate representation of where you are shooting that takes into account movement, as opposed to the static geometric rendering of the past.

This tweak will most likely go unnoticed by most players, but there surely are some high-level players rejoicing right now.

In addition to this, the entire directives system has been re-worked, with players being able to track their objective progress on the in-game heads-up display. Furthermore, a summary screen has been added to the Directives UI, and the navigation buttons now have directive category progress bars, improving the players' experience.

The full list of changes is pretty extensive, and if you're interested in getting the full scoop, you can head over to the Planetside 2 forums.

Unfortunately, the post did not offer any information regarding when Planetside 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4.
