Sony Online Entertainment confirms that it's already testing the PS Vita remote play feature for PlanetSide 2 on the PS4, even if the title is barely in closed beta on the popular home console. What's more, the company says that it will bring preconfigured control schemes into the final version of the free-to-play shooter experience.

PlanetSide 2 delights millions of PC owners from all around the world with its free-to-play shooter experience and last week it finally made its debut on the PS4, albeit in a closed beta test stage, in which just a handful of console owners have been admitted.

Remote play is coming to PlanetSide 2 on PS4

However, Sony Online Entertainment has big plans for the free-to-play shooter on the home console, as the game's Executive Producer Clint Worley tells GameZone that features such as remote play, which allows a PS4 game to be played on the PS Vita, are already in the testing stage at its development team.

While a few problems arise due to the limited controls, the game is working pretty well on the portable console, so PS Vita owners can look forward to remote play in the very near future.

"The interesting thing about remote play is, that's something that technically comes for free with the PlayStation 4 libraries. We went ahead and did some testing with the button mapping on the Vita. The Vita only has two shoulder buttons but has a touchpad on the back. So theoretically the touchpad could be L2 and R2 so in that sense, we wouldn't run into any button configuration issues," he says.

Preconfigured controls will be added to the title

What's more, Worley explains that there will be more preconfigured controls to choose from when the game is rolled out to more PS4 owners as part of the beta. Fans can expect things like schemes that cater to left-handed players, or some for those who prefer inverted controls. Unfortunately, there won't be an option that lets you map out each button.

As of yet, PlanetSide 2 is available as a closed beta on the PS4 in North America. Expect it to reach Europe next month, and more territories in the future.
