PlanetSide 2, the massively successful free-to-play first-person shooter from Sony Online Entertainment, has just received some more details about its PS4 edition, which will get its first playable builds at E3 2014 and MLG Anaheim this month and won't require a PS Plus subscription to enjoy on the Sony console.

PlanetSide 2 went online last year and, since then, has delighted many PC owners from around the world with its top-notch first-person shooter action, its absolutely huge environments, not to mention the intense and high-quality action delivered by the free-to-play experience.

Since the release of the PS4, SOE has confirmed that a PS4 adaptation of PlanetSide 2 is going to debut in the future and it's now posted a status update on the PS blog to inform players about the current state of the porting process.

According to the team, PlanetSide 2 is coming together nicely and already the first fully playable builds are going to be presented on the PS4 at E3 2014 next week and at the MLG Anaheim event between June 20 and June 22.

The studio has also emphasized that PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 will get the same updates and features as the PC edition, thanks to the timed content release system, including a massive continent called Hossin, as well as a new achievement system and much more.

"One of the best things about working on a game like PlanetSide 2 is that it’s a living, evolving game that’s constantly being updated and improved upon. In addition to work being done for PS4, the team is working on a lot of content and game systems enhancements to the live game."

"Some of the biggest features we’re excited to deliver in the next few months are: Hossin, our fourth full 64sqkm continent, an advanced achievement system called Directives, player-driven continent conquest/locking, and expansions to our game’s Outfits systems."

Last but not least, SOE has also mentioned that PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 will not require a PlayStation Plus premium subscription to enjoy, joining other free-to-play titles on the console, like Warframe, which can also be experienced without paying extra.

Bear in mind that, to access the multiplayer mode of regular games on the PS4, a Plus subscription is still needed.

Expect to see and hear more of PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 next week, at E3 2014, as Sony is certain to hype up the release of the first-person shooter onto its home console, among other games.
