The PlaneShift Team has released a new update for its free fantasy multiplayer RPG also available for Mac, PlanetShift. The new release adds close to a dozen features, including support for single-player minigames, the ability to enter a special NPC Camera Mode when talking to NPCs, as well as notifications for guildmember login/out, among others.

PlaneShift is a Role Playing Game revolving around a detail-full 3D virtual fantasy world. The game's top selling point, so to speak, is that it's completely FREE! This means you will have no surprises of premium content, which would limit your gameplay or unbalance the game, according to the team of developers. Moreover, there are no limitations in skills, ranks, abilities, or the items you can gain with your free account. Servers and bandwidth will be donated by sponsors, according to the team. However, the game is still a “tech demo,” according to its makers, meaning that it is still under heavy development.

Nevertheless, you can download the title right now, for free, create a character, and live in an ever-changing world, helping to build “a Team that will make PlaneShift THE choice of MMORPG,” goes a message on the game's website.

“The objective of the PlaneShift Team is to create a virtual fantasy world in which a player can start as a peasant in search of fame and become a hero,” the post reads on. “We will focus our efforts in the reproduction of a real world with politics, economy, many non-player-characters controlled by the server that will bring to life our world, even without players connected.”

The PlanetShift Team assures gamers that it aims to give FREE access to everyone, for both the game copy, and the server-based gameplay. The team also notes that Planetshift boasts a “persistent” virtual world, meaning you will be able to connect whenever you want and always find players to team up with. When disconnected, the server saves the actual status of your character including your possessions. You will have to use a client program to interact with the world, the team says. This way, you can have a 3D view of the surroundings.

Besides the new additions mentioned above, PlaneShift 0.4.03 also delivers the following features and enhancements:

· Minigames now report feedback to the watchers when moves are made; · Minigames can now have various boards (White, Black: Plain, Checked); · You can now change the colour of Text, Lines and Curves in Sketches; · New /drop command. You can drop items, money and specify “all” to drop all items of the same kind; · You can specify “noguard” to /drop commands to drop items unguarded; · You can use /guard on/off on items to guard/unguard them; · You may now need a certain skill (and rank) for picking up items; · You can now optionally be notified on guildmember login/out.
