Since the 3D trend is taking off, albeit not as quickly as some may think, Planar decided to make its own contribution, in the shape of a new LCD 3D monitor known as SA2311W and aimed at consumers.

Even though Planar doesn't usually make products intended for the consumer market, it seems to have made an exception in this particular case.

The aforementioned SA2311W is, as one may have already guessed, a Full HD-ready display with support for both the 2D and 3D display modes.

In other words, it has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, the latter required in order to send two sets of images at 60 Hz at the same time, one for each eye.

The new monitor also has a response time of just 2 milliseconds, as well as multiple video inputs, namely dual-link DVI, VGA and HDMI.

Of course, in order to actually see anything clearly while in 3D mode, a pair of 3D glasses, in this case Active Shutter models, are required and, naturally, offered.

Planar even went all the way and made its creation compatible with the NVIDIA 3D Vision system.

For those interested in a reminder, the 3D Vision technology is capable of converting 2D content into 3D, which means that even games can be played in that mode.

All in all, the 23-inch SA2311W 3D display is Planar's new, non-high-end product, which can already be seen as somewhat out of character knowing the company's preference fro high-grade hardware.

Basically, this may suggest that the industry is more optimistic about 3D technology than one may have been led to believe.

Regardless, those seeking a first-hand view of all available information on this panel need only stop by the official product page that Planar has added to its official website.

Sales have not exactly started as of yet, but US stores will begin shipment sometime next month, in exchange for the sum of $449.
