Specialty display-solution developer Planar Systems is using the opportunity provided by ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) to show off its latest rear projection video displays. Known as the Clarity LED Series, the line features models measuring 50 inches, 67 inches and 70 inches, all of which make use of the latest DLP technology and come with Indisys or Open image processing electronics options. The company describes these products as boasting an exceptional visual precision, complete system design and 24/7 operation and maintenance-free illumination.

The actual products in the series are the Clarity RP-LED and Clarity RX-LED rear-projection displays with XGA resolution, which come in 50-inch and 67-inch sizes, as well as the 70-inch c70HD-LED, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. They can produce a very wide color gamut and saturation levels “never before seen on high-resolution video walls.” The displays employ the Planar NaturalColor technology, with a proprietary color space that produces life-like colors by intelligently mapping a broad color palette to content. This feature comes with customizable color spaces optimized for a variety of video wall applications, such as SCADA, Security, Surveillance, Simulation, Broadcast and Collaborative Control Room.

A second major trait of the rear-projection wall displays is the complete system design, which enables an easy installation and optimum performance. The LED Series come with the Set it and Forget it (SiFi) Auto Color and Brightness Balance. This functionality continuously monitors the LED, measures the output of the full light path of the engine and maintains site-specific adjustments. This gives the video wall a sustained uniformity.

Finally, the Planar Clarity LED Series is built without removable parts, such as color wheels or lamps, and the Solid State LED illumination further reduces the number of moving parts that have a chance to break down. As such, the displays remove the costs and interruptions associated with lamp changes, thus enabling a full support for control room applications that operate non-stop, 24/7. The Planar Clarity LED Series illumination system has a life rated at 60,000 hours.

“With its proprietary, high-end features, the Clarity LED Series is another example of the innovation Planar brings to the market,” Gerry Perkel, Planar’s CEO, said. “This new product series creates a cost-effective choice for a variety of control room applications by providing extraordinary visual performance while simultaneously reducing maintenance and improving the uptime of the video wall.”

Planar aims for its display solutions to be used in government, military, traffic, utilities, broadcast control room and energy video wall applications. The Clarity LED Video Wall will start shipping during the third fiscal year of 2010, through the company's worldwide network of authorized control room resellers.
