A Massachusetts man was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment of a child after he allegedly shoved a slice of hot pizza into a 6-year-old girl's face, reports say.

The incident happened on Friday, when James Vincent Grass took a slice of freshly-microwaved pizza and threw it into the girl's face causing her first- and second-degree burns.

According to the police report, the 21-year-old man got mad because the girl had stopped the microwave before he returned to the kitchen, while the girl says she did it because the slice was starting to Steam.

When the girl's mother arrived at the house in Chicopee to pick her daughter up, the latter was holding a cold towel to her chin. The woman says the girl had a blister the size of a quarter on her chin.

As a result of this incident, the pizza slice has been classified as a “dangerous weapon” by police officers.

Mass Live informs that Grass denied the charges during his arraignment in District Court and was released on a $500 (€359) bond pending a return to court on June 12 for a pre-trial hearing. However, police sent a mandated child abuse report to the state Department of Children and Families.
