Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are dying to make a sequel to the action/spy movie that brought them together in 2005, when he was still married to former “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston. “Mr. and Mrs. Smith 2” would, however, serve no purpose in terms of moviemaking, since the two see the project as the only thing that can still save their doomed relationship, the National Enquirer says (via Marie Claire).

It seems that things between the two are going from bad to worse, if one were to believe the reports currently making the rounds in the press and online media. Brad and Angelina have spent most of the past months separated, each working on different projects, which has only added more tension to their relationship. Thus, they have come up with the idea of working together again – and what better way to do so than with a sequel to the film that got them to meet and made them fall in love years ago.

Of course, since so much time has passed in between, the story will suffer certain modifications and adaptations. For starters, sources are telling the tab, the couple onscreen will have children in the sequel, so the challenge will be double: dodging bullets and raising kids. Jolie and Pitt have already contacted the original screenwriter for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” the Enquirer claims and, from what insiders are whispering, work on the script has already begun.

Again, the sequel is not meant to serve other purpose than that of rekindling the romance between Pitt and Jolie, the same tab underlines. “They’re hoping lightning will strike twice and they can re-spark the magnetism that captivated them [four] years ago. The romantic action film was penned by screenwriter Simon Kinberg. He’s become close friend of the couple, and Brad’s asked him to write the ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ sequel. This time around, the Smiths will have children, and the kids’ antics will be part of the story line.” a so-called close friend of Pitt and Jolie reveals for the Enquirer.

As fans must remember, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” though a highly entertaining movie, was trashed by critics for being so overwhelming and occasionally downright useless, that not even Jolie and Pitt (both excellent actors) could save it. Moreover, the film went down in history (not necessarily of cinematography) as the project that helped the two get to know each other and fall in love, since they reportedly started the affair as early as back then, when Pitt was still married to Aniston.
