A number of important changes have been made to the app

Pitivi is a free and open source video editor for the Linux platform that uses the GStreamer multimedia framework. Its developer has recently updated the application and he added a number of new features, besides all the fixes and regular changes.

There are only a handful of non-linear video editors on the Linux platform and Pitivi is one of the best. It is updated constantly and the developer is always making improvements to the application. The current edition of Pitivi is finally aligned to the way GNOME handles windows and the header bar, and it makes a really big difference for the interface.

Pitivi is usually assimilated as being a part of the GNOME project, but it runs on all kinds of distributions and desktop environments. The fact that it uses GStreamer, which is a very popular framework, gives the developer a lot of freedom. Also, GStreamer is also constantly being improved and updated, which means that Pitivi can only get better.

Latest Pitivi version is much more compact

Users will be amazed to see just how much of a difference the new implementation of the header bar makes. It makes much more sense, especially with the latest GNOME 3.14 version. Also, some of the other changes made to the apps are pretty important and upgrading Pitivi is a very good idea.

"The first thing you will notice is that the main toolbar, menubar and titlebar have been replaced by a unified GTK HeaderBar, saving a ton of precious vertical space and making better use of the horizontal space. Once you try it, you can’t go back. There is beauty in the equilibrium it has now, compared to the previously clunky and unbalanced layout."

"This release is meant to be the last release based on our current 'buggy stack'; indeed, as I mentioned in my previous status update, the next release (0.95) will run on top of a refined and incredibly more robust backend thanks to the work that Mathieu and Thibault have been doing to replace GNonLin by NLE (the new non-linear engine for GES) and fixing videomixing issues," says developer Jean-François Fortin Tam.

He also explains that some dependencies on some broken CoGL APIs have been removed, the undocked windows should now start in the same position every time, and lots of smaller fixes have been implemented.
