Pisi Linux 1.0 RC2, an open source operating system based on the Pardus Linux distribution, has been released and is now available for download.

The developers of Pisi Linux have finally made some progress with the new distribution and they have released a new version with some important changes. They don't release new builds as often as they should, but their operating system is interesting and very different from what can be usually found in the Linux community.

“Pisi GNU/Linux is built from scratch but it is a stable base. On top of that, we keep core user applications, such as Firefox, VLC, etc, up to date as much as we can. To ease the use of Pisi GNU/Linux many codecs are preinstalled allowing MP3 & DVD playback, Flash Player support,” reads the official website.

Pisi Linux 1.0 RC2 has been dubbed Erdinc and arrives after a long struggle. Developers think that all major problems have been squashed, but some issues might still linger. Users have been invited to download and test the operating system so that all bugs can be rooted out.

The distribution has a very powerful and friendly installer that can be used even by people who have no prior Linux experience. It comes with Linux kernel 3.12.13, hwihc is rather old, but it has been established as a very stable solution, KDE SC 4.12.3 (which is not the newest, but they could have done much worse), and MATE 1.6.2 for all the people who like a more classic look for the operating system.

Other packages included in the distribution are Mozilla Firefox 27, LibreOffice 4.2.1.1, GIMP 2.8.10, Calligra Suite 2.7.5, Clementine 1.2.1, Qt 4.8.5, glibc 2.18, binutils 2.32.2, and coreutils 8.21.

The system requirements are also not that high: a 64-bit processor, at least 2 GB of memory, and 12 GB of disk space. You might need some more hard disk space if you decide to use a swap partition, which is usually twice the size of the system memory.

You should check the official announcement for a complete list of changes and improvements for this Linux distribution. You can also download Pisi Linux 1.0 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.

The developers haven't issued a time frame for the release of the final version of Pisi Linux, but this might be the last Release Candidate.
