The bulk of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was shot on location in Hawaii, but certain scenes were shot in Puerto Rico. It turns out that the upcoming, fifth installment will also go into production here.

The report comes from CaribbeanBusinessPR, which cites Puerto Rico Film Commission Executive Director Mariella Pérez as saying that, “Disney just confirmed that they have picked Puerto Rico over Hawaii.”

“Filming is expected to begin in November, with Hollywood heavyweight Johnny Depp again signed on to play the leading role of Jack Sparrow. The American actor is no stranger to Puerto Rico, having filmed both ‘The Rum Diary’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ on the island,” the aforementioned media outlet says.

Disney’s decision to shoot here could have a lot to do with Gov. Luis Fortuno’s signing a tax break package for the island in the hope it would attract more Hollywood studios.

It surely seems to have paid off.
