It might be another while until Cpt. Sparrow comes back, says Disney CEO

The fourth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “On Stranger Tides,” came out in 2011, so a follow-up has been a long time coming. Believed to be called “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” it was scheduled for a tentative release for the summer of 2016 but it looks like fans will have to wait some more to see Cpt. Jack Sparrow again.

The conclusion stems from Disney CEO Bob Iger’s revelation during a stakeholder meeting held in Portland, Oregon, when he said that the fifth film wasn’t even greenlit yet, as AceShowbiz reports.

That means that, if the project hasn’t been given the green light just yet, we can’t even begin to talk about an actual start date for the production, let alone about a release. For the time being, “Pirates 5” is just a note on a paper that means nothing or, more accurately, a script that’s still pending approval.

Once that happens, once the script is approved by Disney, the casting process will begin, locations will be scouted, and the actual shooting will eventually start.

Add to that the actual shooting timeframe and the many months spent in post-production (which in the case of an FX-laden film like this one could take up to a year), and then it becomes clear that the summer of 2016 as a release date is an impossibility.

At best, voices online are saying, the film will come out in 2017 or even 2018 but, by that time, I ask you, will there be any more fans interested in it?
