Harmonix has issued a clarification about a recent statement concerning Rock Band 4's chances of coming to PC, emphasizing that piracy isn't the actual reason the music game is coming just to the PS4 and Xbox One at least right now.

The Rock Band series has been around for quite a few years, as developer Harmonix has managed to delight tens of millions of console owners across many different devices. The next iteration of the franchise, Rock Band 4, is set to debut this fall on the PS4 and Xbox One.

While speaking with Eurogamer, a Harmonix representative has mentioned that several things keep Rock Band 4 from launching on the PC as well, as there isn't a fanbase and there are security risks involved with the release of new tracks and modifications made by users.

Piracy isn't preventing the debut of Rock Band 4 on PC

After some fans interpreted the security concerns as complaints about piracy, Harmonix has released a new clarification, via Gamespot, emphasizing that it appreciates the PC community and that releasing Rock Band 4 on the platform requires a more sophisticated DLC delivery and protection program that could appear after the game's launch on PS4 and Xbox One.

"We're not concerned about software piracy on PC. We have and will release games for PC. In fact, last year we released A City Sleeps for PC, Mac, and Linux. The security in question is related to licensed music in the game. In the case of more open platforms like PC, we're responsible for that. It's something we can build. It's not off the table for the future, however we're first focusing on delivering Rock Band 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this holiday," the studio explains.

As such, while Rock Band 4 might appear only on PS4 and Xbox One right now, Harmonix is leaving the door open for a potential PC title in the future, although quite a few things need to happen before that becomes a reality.
