14 DAY TRIAL // Jools Watsham, the leader of developer Renegade Kid, says that he is ready to abandon the Nintendo handheld market if the hardware maker does not find a way to eliminate piracy.
In an official blog post, he states, “Piracy on the Nintendo DS crippled the DS retail market, especially in Europe. We’ll never know how/if Dementium II landed in as many hands as the first game, Dementium: The Ward, due to the rampant piracy at the time.”
Renegate Kid has created titles like Mutant Mudds, Dementium and Moon.
Watsham says that the first Dementium has sold more than 100,000 copies all over the world on the DS, while the second one barely managed half of that.
The discrepancy is blamed on the high piracy level of the 3DS market.
The Renegade Kid leader also believes that hackers and homebrewers should become legitimate 3DS developers.
