Pioneer has rolled out a new firmware package targeted at its SC-85, SC-87, and SC-89 Audio/Video receivers, namely version 1-264-007-513-119, which fixes an issue where the test tone level of Top Forward/Top Backward speakers wouldn’t work.

If your device has been encountering this issue and you want to upgrade the AV Receiver, then save and extract the downloadable package on your computer, and copy the two files (.fw and .bin formats) onto a USB memory stick.

Connect the newly prepared removable storage to the device’s USB port, go to Other Setup > Software Update > Update via USB Memory, and wait for the receiver to search for the new firmware on the flash drive (“Accessing” message will be displayed).

After the new software has been found and the “New Version Found” message is shown, tap “Update,” select “Ok,” and wait for the device to apply the new software version. Upon completion, the receiver will automatically power off announcing a successful installation.

However, bear in mind that during the upgrade you mustn’t unplug the power, remove the USB stick, or interrupt the process in any way. Doing so will cause the update to fail, which will result in serious device malfunctions.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your AV receiver, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and upgrade your device to the latest firmware version.
