Pioneer has recently released the “September 2013 Update” for their AVH-X5500BT and AVH-X2500BT car entertainment systems. The purpose of this firmware is to replace the German message “Aisplay Aus” with “Display Aus.”

The installation procedure is a bit tricky, so follow the steps below in order to avoid bricking your device.

First of all, use the link below to download the firmware files. They will come packed in an archive. Make sure you extract them to an accessible place (i.e. Desktop).

Next, use a FAT32 formatted USB stick and copy only the “PDB094.bin” on its root folder. Safely remove the flash drive and proceed to the car entertainment system.

Turn ACC ON while holding the “VOL -” and “TRK<” buttons until you see the unit displaying “Software update.”

Plug the USB stick to its port and wait. It might take up to 60 seconds until the actual update starts. Make sure you take your time and do not interrupt the process.

When it completes, a confirmation message will be displayed. Remove the USB stick and press the reset button. Power down the device afterwards.

The second part of the update comes up next. Format the flash drive again, but this time copy the “PEH408A.bin” to the root folder. Follow the same steps as before and you will successfully update your device.

Get the new firmware for your device at the links below and stay “updated one minute ago.”
